Anabolic French Toast

As Coach Greg Doucette says (or screams), THERE ARE NO RULES IN THE ANABOLIC KITCHEN! Anabolic french toast is essentially fluffy, egg-white soaked bread that's cooked in a pan. It can be either sweet or savory, eaten fresh or reheated from frozen.

To add flavor to the toast, you can mix in some extras into the egg whites before soaking the bread.

  • Sweet: granulated or liquid sweeteners, cinnamon, vanilla extract

  • Savory: popcorn seasoning, dried herbs, black pepper

Some of my favorite sweet topping combos include:

  • Greek yogurt, cinnamon, mangoes, and maple syrup

  • Greek yogurt, strawberries, and maple syrup

  • Peanut butter and jelly or frozen berries

  • Chocolate peanut butter and strawberries

  • Bananas, walnuts, chocolate chips, and maple syrup

  • Mixed berries and cream

Some of my favorite savory topping combos include:

  • Sautéed greens, mushrooms, and/or peppers and parmesan cheese

  • Cottage cheese with black pepper, flaky sea salt, and red pepper flakes

  • Greek yogurt, dill, lemon juice, avocado, sliced cucumbers and smoked salmon

Anabolic French Toast
Prep Time: 5 mins
Cook Time: 5 mins
Yield: 4 slices

Ingredients

  • 4 slices of bread, any kind
  • 6-7 large egg whites
  • pinch of salt
  • non-stick oil spray
  • mix-ins of choice (see above for ideas)
  • toppings of choice (see above for ideas)

Directions

  1. Heat a large nonstick pan over low heat.
  2. Meanwhile, whisk egg whites, salt, and mix-ins of choice in a large, shallow bowl.
  3. Soak each slice of bread in the egg white mixture until soggy but not falling apart.
  4. Spray pan with nonstick spray, then carefully place a soaked piece of bread into the pan. Cook until golden brown, then flip. Repeat with all slices and top with anything you like!

No nutrition information because this recipe is so variable depending on toppings, type of bread, amount of oil used in pan, etc.
